Schools, parks, libraries and museums across the state may choose to start publicly recognizing that they sit on what was once tribal land, if a new bill proposed by Assemblyman James Ramos, D-Highland, passes.

The bill suggests that schools, museums, parks and libraries adopt a land acknowledgement process in consultation with local tribes or Native American educational organizations. Tribes could be recognized in a variety of ways, such as with a statement made before an event or words etched in a plaque.
