Legislation

Each year, numerous bills are introduced in both the State Legislature and Congress which seek to expand, limit or modernize gaming statutes. California gaming statutes are over 100 years old.  Reform of statutes must provide a coherent framework of regulations that ensures the public’s welfare as well as trust in the games and industry. This type of reform is important to the public if it provides simplified regulatory oversight by state regulators and an overall cost savings to the taxpayers.

IGRA on its face limited to gaming has affected tribal acknowledgment, tribal restorations, reaffirmations and gaming related land acquisitions. Thus a wide range of federal and state legislation related to tribes must be monitored.

This section is intended to provide all interested parties a perspective and institutional memory through letters of support and opposition of the issues that have emerged due to the evolving industry of gaming in our State.
