In the past three weeks, Redding City Council challenger and first-time political candidate Mark Mezzano has received $31,000 in campaign contributions from the Redding Rancheria.

The Native American tribe owns the Win-River Resort and Casino, which is located just outside the city.

The tribe's donations to Mezzano exceed the total amount that's been raised by most of the other candidates in the November city council race, according to an examination of campaign disclosure statements.
