The federal government has ruled that the Redding Rancheria will have to follow a different regulatory path to gain approval to open a casino on land the tribe owns just south of Redding.

The decision — likely to place further delays in what’s already been a lengthy process — came in a letter earlier this week from the U.S. Department of the Interior. The tribe had already put consideration of its expansion proposal "on pause" earlier this year.
