Tuolumne County formally commemorates California Native American Day for first time

Waylon Coats, 36, cultural director for the Chicken Ranch Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians of California and a member of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation, showed chaw'se grinding holes made by Chicken Ranch tribe forebears on a slab of bedrock granite below Table Mountain on Thursday, within view of ongoing construction of the new Chicken Ranch Tribe casino-resort slated to open in late 2023.
