July 7, 2021: Pauma Band of Mission Indians v Governor Gavin Newsom and the State of CA - Bad Faith Negotiations
Like the twelve other Indian tribes
who filed suit in this District over the last two years, Pauma is still a party to one of the original form
class III gaming compacts in the State of California (“1999 Compact”), and has been involved in renegotiations of that agreement since November 2014. Following Governor Newsom’s inauguration at the
outset of 2019, Pauma essentially had to restart its negotiations from scratch, and was eager to see if a
new administration would bring with it a new mentality towards dealing with Indian tribes.
