Stand Up does not believe the Tejon Tribe meets the requirement in the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 (“IRA”) of being a “recognized Indian tribe now under Federal jurisdiction,” as of 1934. Instead, the Tejon Indians residing on the Tejon Ranch were under state jurisdiction in 1934 and, therefore, the Secretary of the Interior lacks authority to acquire any land into trust for this applicant.
